Are Sky Panels easy to install?
Sky Panels are quick and easy to install, require no tools or cutting and come with full instructions. Should you have any difficulties please contact us for advice.
Are Sky Panels safe?
Yes. Lighting diffusers are subject to certain provisions concerning prevention of the spread of fire laid down in the statutory requirements of The Building Regulations 2000 (UK).
Sky Panels have been formally fire tested in accordance with British Standards and comply with the criteria TP(b) as specified in The Building Regulations 2000 (UK) for Fire Safety.

Why Category 2 (Cat II) Fluorescent Light Diffusers?
Around 1989 there was a need for a suitable lighting requirement where computers were in use to reduce lighting reflection on monitor screens.
At that time monitors were Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) and Operating Systems tended to use green or white ‘type font’ on a black screen.
The category 1-2-3 classification fluorescent metal (grid style) light diffuser were introduced approximately 5 years later.
The fluorescent light diffuser categories were as follows;
- Category 1 for Computer suites
- Category 2 for General office and workplace environments
- Category 3 for Occasional use computer environments.
Unfortunately this style of fluorescent light diffuser panel can produce a ‘gloomy’ environment if used on its own and no consideration is taken into surrounding surface reflectance.
It is no longer necessary to specify these categories and fluorescent light diffuser panel styles mainly due to the use of full colour Operating Systems on computers and the introduction of TFT (Thin Flat Transistor) monitor technology with their low reflective qualities.
The CIBSE & The Society of Light and Lighting no longer use the category classification.
What sizes of Sky Panels are available?
Our standard Sky Panels are 1190 x 590mm, Sky Tiles are 590 x 590mm. However we can produce Sky Panels to custom sizes (dependent upon numbers), please contact us for more information.
Can you produce a custom Sky Panel for our Company/School/Business?
We can produce Sky Panels unique to your requirements i.e. Logos, Designs, Images etc. This can be achieved in different ways depending upon the numbers required. Please contact us for further details.
Do Sky Panels have any effect on light output?
Sky Panels are designed to provide a visually pleasing environment and an improvement to existing light diffusers. In most cases they will offer similar light levels to existing systems.
In cases where the light level appears to reduce, we suggest trying the following options:
Leave for 2 -3 days, the light difference may be negligible in favour of the striking and pleasant appearance of Sky Panels.
Check and replace existing fluorescent tubes.
Over time phosphors within the tubes burn down resulting in reduced light output. Standard 60mm (2') tubes have an average life of around 3000hrs, in daily use this equates to approximately 12 - 18 months.
Check and upgrade to either Triphosphor or Daylight tubes.
Triphosphor tubes provide superior light quality, greater energy efficency and a longer life.
Daylight tubes are designed to give a near perfect colour performance and are the closest to natural daylight.
Leased Premises / Landlords
Landlords are agreeable to Tenants making improvements to light fittings for the benefit of their staff and businesses. The usual stipulation is that the light fittings be returned to the same as at the start of the tenancy. With Sky Panels this is easily done.
However should you have any concerns our advice is to speak to your Landlord.
Do the clouds move on Sky Panels?
We are regularly asked this question (smile!) but currently the clouds do not move. We have a number of projects being developed within our R&D department which will enhance the look of Sky Panels. Please visit our site regularly for updates.
Do Sky Panels have any medical benefits?
We have received many positive and pleasing comments regarding Sky Panels and as much as we would like, we do not make any medical claims.
